Bagels - Thermomix Recipes from Steph

They take just over 1.5 hours to make, but there’s only about 10 minutes of work in that they were chewy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside.

290g warm water

480g bakers flour

5-10g yeast

25g sugar

1 tspn salt

Add all ingredients into the Thermomix, mix on speed 5-6 for around 10-15 seconds until it just starts to come together into a ball, using the knead setting for 2 minutes.

Place in an large oiled bowl, cover with cling wrap and leave to rise for an hour.

Heat oven to 240′c (220 fan forced)

Divide in half, then half again and half again. Roll each of the 8 pieces into a ball, then use your thumb/s to create a hole in the middle. Place on a greased tray lined with baking paper, cover with a damp tea towel and leave for 15 minutes.

In the meantime bring a large pot of water to the boil. Add in bagels one at a time. Cook 30 seconds per side – drain (will stick to paper towel, so put them on a strainer) then place back on the tray.

Bake for 15 minutes.

Let cool slightly and then go for it!

    These are delicious and ever so easy to make. I haven’t tasted a New York bagel but these are rather good.

    These are great and easy to make. I also add poppy seeds, sesame seeds and cheese to the top after boiling them for different favours.

    My family prefer these over the ones I used to buy at our local market, PLUS, they are much cheaper to make than buy. Thanks

    Made these this morning. Lovely flavour and not too much effort required. Will definitely be making these again! I used a big deep frying pan instead of a saucepan to boil them in, so I could do 4 at a time, and slotted spoon to remove.
